colostrum
Colostrum

What this is. Bovine colostrum — the first milk a cow produces after calving, rich in immune factors and growth factors. Taken for gut lining and immune support.

575 mg of IgG per scoop, from 2,300 mg of bovine colostrum standardised to 25% IgG. The scoop weighs 2.3 g and the colostrum in it weighs 2,300 mg, which means the scoop is colostrum and nothing else. Colostrum is a milk product — if you have a dairy allergy, this is not for you.

What you are actually getting, per 1 scoop (2.3 g)

Calories — 10

Calcium — 20 mg

Sodium — 5 mg

Potassium — 25 mg

Bovine Colostrum (25% IgG) — 2,300 mg

Immunoglobulin G (IgG) — 575 mg

Here is the arithmetic, and for once it is the label's own: 2,300 mg at 25% is 575 mg, and the panel prints both numbers. That is more than most colostrum labels do — plenty print a colostrum weight and leave the IgG content to your imagination. A stated standardisation is worth something, and we will say so on the rare pages where we can.

The calcium, sodium and potassium are not added minerals. They are what is in the colostrum, which is why they are small. The scoop weight and the colostrum weight are the same figure, so there is no filler here at all, and thirty scoops at 2.3 g is 69 g. It all lines up.

What the panel does not state: whether this is first-milking colostrum, where the herd is, whether the cows were treated with hormones, and what the lactose content is. Colostrum contains lactose and there is no figure here, so if you are lactose intolerant you are buying without that number.

Worth knowing before you buy

The IgG concentration is the good news and the total dose is the caveat. Bovine colostrum trials generally use far more powder than this — doses in the region of 10 to 60 g a day are common in the published work, against 2.3 g in a scoop here. So while 25% IgG is a strong standardisation, one scoop is a small fraction of what the studies feed people. Both of those things are true at once, and a front panel that printed only the first would be telling you half of it.

IgG is an antibody protein. The panel tells you how much of it is in the scoop. It cannot tell you what happens to it after you swallow it, and neither can we, so we are not going to fill that gap with adjectives.

One more thing you should hear from us rather than work out for yourself: we list this colostrum twice, under two separate listings, and the Supplement Facts panels are identical — same 2.3 g scoop, same 2,300 mg of colostrum, same 575 mg of IgG, same 30 servings. It is the same powder. The only difference we can see between the two labels is that this one declares milk as an allergen and the other does not print an allergen line. If both listings are in front of you, the only thing worth comparing is the price.

How to take it

One 2.3 g scoop stirred into a cold drink, once a day. Thirty scoops in the tub, so one a day is 30 days.

Other ingredients

The panel lists none — the scoop is colostrum. This is a powder, so there is no capsule and no gelatin question. The panel declares MILK as an allergen. Bovine colostrum is made from milk, so this is not suitable for anyone with a dairy allergy, and not suitable for vegetarians or vegans.

Cautions

Do not take this if you have a milk or dairy allergy. If you are lactose intolerant, the lactose content is not stated, so start small or avoid it. Colostrum has no well-documented drug interactions, but if you are immunosuppressed, taking immunosuppressant medication, or living with any condition that affects your immune system, speak to your doctor before taking a concentrated immunoglobulin product. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not use if the safety seal is damaged or missing. Store in a cool, dry place. Do not exceed the recommended dose. If you are pregnant, nursing, under 18, taking prescription medication or living with a medical condition, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before starting this or any supplement.

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
