The panel is a proprietary blend, which means the individual amounts are not disclosed — see the note below.

An 800 mg herbal blend across two capsules, holding seven ingredients. It is a proprietary blend: the panel states the 800 mg total and not one individual weight. The berberine is the ingredient worth doing arithmetic on, and the arithmetic caps it at about 21 mg.

What you are actually getting, per 2 capsules

Proprietary Blend — 800 mg total

Olive Leaf (20% oleuropein) — amount not disclosed

Moringa (30% saponins) — amount not disclosed

Berberine HCl 8% (from Phellodendron) — amount not disclosed

Citrus Bioflavonoids 50% — amount not disclosed

Holy Basil (2.5% ursolic acid) — amount not disclosed

African Mango — amount not disclosed

Cayenne 4:1 — amount not disclosed

Six of those seven lines carry a percentage or an extract ratio, and not one of them carries a weight to apply it to. A standardisation without a weight is decoration.

The berberine is the exception, because you can put a ceiling on it. Even if the whole 800 mg were the phellodendron extract, 8% of 800 mg is 64 mg. It cannot be the whole 800 mg: blend ingredients are listed in descending order by weight and this is the third of seven, so it can be no more than a third of the blend — which puts the berberine at roughly 21 mg at the absolute most, and realistically less.

Worth knowing before you buy

Berberine research uses 500 mg of berberine itself, two or three times a day. This is at most 21 mg. That is not a near miss, it is a different order of magnitude, and no amount of the other six ingredients closes it.

We have not put this in our weight-metabolism collection, and it is better to say why on the page than to do it quietly. Nothing in this blend, at any weight it could plausibly have inside 800 mg, has human evidence for weight loss. African mango is the ingredient with the most weight-loss marketing behind it, and what sits behind that marketing is a handful of small, low-quality trials using around 150 mg twice a day — an amount this panel gives you no way of verifying. Cayenne at 4:1 has no capsaicinoid figure. Olive leaf, moringa and holy basil are well-tolerated botanicals without a weight-loss evidence base at any dose.

What it is: an 800 mg blend of seven botanicals with the individual amounts withheld. What it is not: a product that can be expected to change your weight, and we are not going to sell it as one. Nothing on this panel is a substitute for the things that actually move weight.

How to take it

Two capsules a day with water. Sixty capsules in the bottle at two a day, which is 30 days.

Other ingredients

The panel we have does not carry an other-ingredients line, so we cannot tell you what the capsule shell is made of. Gelatin shells are animal-derived and are not suitable for vegetarians or vegans; cellulose and HPMC shells are. We are not going to guess which this is — if it matters to you, read the physical bottle before you take it. No allergen is declared on the panel, which is not the same as there being none.

Cautions

Berberine is the one to raise with a pharmacist even at 21 mg, because it affects the liver enzymes and transporters that clear a long list of prescription medicines, and because it lowers blood glucose — if you take metformin, insulin or anything else for blood sugar, that is a conversation to have first. Berberine is not recommended in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and not for infants. Cayenne can irritate the stomach and may add to the effect of anticoagulant and antiplatelet medicines; holy basil may do the same and may also lower blood glucose. Because the individual amounts are not disclosed, nobody can judge your exposure to any single ingredient from this label, which is a reason to mention the bottle to your doctor rather than assume the amounts are too small to matter. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not use if the safety seal is damaged or missing. Store in a cool, dry place. Do not exceed the recommended dose. If you are pregnant, nursing, under 18, taking prescription medication or living with a medical condition, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before starting this or any supplement.

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
