Osterly Market Alpha Lipoic Acid 600 mg
600 mg alpha lipoic acid per capsule. One ingredient.
Single-ingredient ALA at the dose used in most of the research. Nothing else in the capsule to read around.
What it's for
Alpha lipoic acid is an antioxidant your body already makes in small amounts. It is unusual in being both water- and fat-soluble, which means it can work in more places in a cell than most antioxidants. People take it for general antioxidant support and for nerve comfort — the nerve research is the strongest part of its evidence base, mostly at doses at or above this one.
How to take it
- One capsule daily, with food
- Empty-stomach dosing causes nausea in a fair number of people
- ALA can lower blood sugar, so speak to your prescriber first if you take diabetes medication
- Take it at a different time of day from any mineral supplement — it binds metals
On the label
- 600 mg ALA per capsule
- 120 capsules
- One active ingredient
What this is not
- Not an R-ALA product — this is the standard racemic form
- Not blended with biotin or chromium to bulk the label
- Not a diabetes treatment
The straight answer
ALA on an empty stomach makes some people queasy. Take it with food and that mostly goes away.
