Glucosamine and chondroitin are both components of cartilage. They are taken for joint comfort and mobility, especially in knees. The evidence is genuinely mixed — some large trials found no benefit over placebo, others found a modest effect in people with more significant joint pain. It is a reasonable thing to try and an unreasonable thing to promise.
