Osterly Market Lutein Eye Complex with Bilberry
Lutein, zeaxanthin and bilberry — three actives, three numbers.
A step up from the basic carotenoid pair, with bilberry extract added and stated rather than implied.
What it's for
The same carotenoid pair as our basic lutein product, with bilberry extract added. Bilberry is an anthocyanin-rich berry with a reputation for night vision that traces back to a WWII pilot story which has never held up in testing. It is a reasonable antioxidant on its own merits, which is the honest reason it is in here.
How to take it
- One capsule daily with a meal containing fat
- Fat-soluble — food matters for absorption
- Months rather than weeks before macular pigment measurably shifts
- Bilberry has mild blood-thinning activity; mention it before surgery or if you take anticoagulants
On the label
- Lutein, zeaxanthin and bilberry extract, each dosed
- 120 capsules
- Fat-soluble — take with a meal
What this is not
- Not a vision correction
- Not a night-vision product, whatever the folklore says about bilberry
- Not necessary if you already take our basic lutein
The straight answer
The bilberry-and-night-vision story comes from a WWII pilot anecdote that has never replicated. We include bilberry because it is a reasonable antioxidant, not because of that.
