What this is. Aimed at NAD+, a coenzyme every cell uses for energy and repair, and one that falls with age. Taken as part of a longevity routine.

500 mg of NAD+ per two-capsule serving, alongside 150 mg of Japanese knotweed standardised to 98% resveratrol. That standardisation is the one piece of arithmetic on this panel, and it works out at 147 mg of resveratrol.

What you are actually getting, per 2 capsules

  • NAD+ (form not stated on the panel) — 500 mg
  • Quercetin Dihydrate — 250 mg
  • Japanese Knotweed (98% resveratrol) — 150 mg

150 mg standardised to 98% resveratrol is 147 mg of resveratrol, and that is the number on the front. Quercetin is listed as the dihydrate, which carries water in its weight, so the quercetin itself is somewhat less than 250 mg; the panel does not state how much less, so neither will we. The NAD+ line gives a weight and nothing else — no salt, no form, no standardisation.

Worth knowing before you buy

Resveratrol is the ingredient here we can compare cleanly. Human trials commonly run from 150 mg to 500 mg a day, so 147 mg sits at the bottom of that range rather than below it. Quercetin trials generally use 500 mg to 1,000 mg a day, so 250 mg is under what the studies use.

NAD+ itself is harder, and we would rather say so than fill the space. Almost all the published human research in this area uses precursors — nicotinamide riboside or nicotinamide mononucleotide — rather than NAD+ taken by mouth, so there is no matching research dose to hold 500 mg against. We are not going to invent one, and it is worth being sceptical of any label that quotes you a figure for it.

What it is: a 500 mg NAD+ capsule with a genuinely dosed resveratrol extract and a modest amount of quercetin. What it is not: a product whose headline ingredient can be matched to a trial.

How to take it

Two capsules a day with water. Sixty capsules in the bottle at two a day, which is 30 days.

Other ingredients

HPMC. The capsule shell is HPMC (hypromellose) rather than gelatin, so it is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. The panel declares no allergens.

Cautions

Quercetin and resveratrol both affect how the liver processes a range of medicines, so check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take anything on prescription. Resveratrol may also add to the effect of anticoagulant and antiplatelet medicines such as warfarin, clopidogrel and aspirin, which matters if you have surgery coming up. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not use if the safety seal is damaged or missing. Store in a cool, dry place. Do not exceed the recommended dose. If you are pregnant, nursing, under 18, taking prescription medication or living with a medical condition, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before starting this or any supplement.
