Osterly Market Vegan Omega 3-6-9 – Plant-Based Fatty Acid Blend
Flaxseed, evening primrose and sunflower oils. No fish.
A plant-based omega blend for people who do not eat fish, with all three source oils named.
What it's for
Omega-3, 6 and 9 are fatty acids used to build cell membranes and signalling molecules. The catch with plant sources is real and worth knowing: flaxseed provides ALA, which your body converts to the EPA and DHA it actually uses at a rate of only a few per cent. Most people get plenty of omega-6 and 9 from food already.
How to take it
- Take with food — these are fats and absorb with a meal
- No particular timing
- If you specifically need EPA and DHA, a fish or algae oil delivers them directly rather than relying on conversion
- Mild blood-thinning effect at higher intakes; mention it before surgery
On the label
- Flaxseed, evening primrose and sunflower oils, all named
- 120 softgels
- Vegan and non-GMO
What this is not
- Not a source of preformed EPA or DHA
- Not fish oil
- Not a substitute for algae oil if DHA is what you are after
The straight answer
We would rather tell you about the ALA conversion problem than let you assume this is fish oil without the fish. For most people it is not equivalent.
