Osterly Market Antarctic Krill Oil – 2000mg with Astaxanthin
2000 mg krill oil. Omega-3 as phospholipids, with astaxanthin.
Krill oil delivers its omega-3 bound to phospholipids rather than triglycerides, which is the whole reason to pay more for it.
What it's for
The phospholipid form appears to absorb somewhat better than standard fish oil and is markedly easier on the stomach for people who get fishy repeat. Krill also carries naturally occurring astaxanthin, which keeps the oil stable. The trade-off is that krill oil typically delivers less total EPA and DHA per capsule than a concentrated fish oil.
How to take it
- Take with a meal
- Far less likely to cause fishy repeat than standard fish oil
- Compare the EPA and DHA figures against a concentrate before deciding — krill wins on tolerance, not on quantity
- Blood-thinning effect; stop before surgery and check with your prescriber if you take anticoagulants
On the label
- 2000 mg krill oil per serving
- EPA and DHA in phospholipid form
- Naturally occurring astaxanthin included
What this is not
- Not higher in EPA/DHA than a concentrated fish oil
- Not shellfish-free — krill are crustaceans
- Not suitable if you have a shellfish allergy
The straight answer
Krill oil is sold at a premium on the absorption argument. The absorption difference is real but modest; the tolerability difference is the part most buyers actually notice.
