What it's for

The eight B vitamins, with folate (B9) and biotin (B7) among them and dosed on the panel rather than buried. Folate is needed for DNA synthesis and red blood cell formation; biotin is involved in fat and carbohydrate metabolism and is popularly taken for hair and nails, where the evidence is honestly quite weak unless you are deficient.

How to take it

• One capsule daily with breakfast
• Morning suits it better than evening
• High-dose biotin interferes with several common blood tests, including thyroid and troponin. Tell whoever draws your blood that you take it
• If you are pregnant or planning to be, folate needs are specific — talk to a doctor rather than relying on a general B-complex
