Osterly Market Melatonin 35mg – High-Dose Sleep Formula

Size

35 mg melatonin. Seven to seventy times a typical dose.

A very high-dose melatonin. We have put the comparison on the front because the number is the thing you most need to know before buying it.

What it's for

Melatonin is the hormone that tells your body it is night. It shifts your internal clock rather than sedating you, which is why it works well for jet lag and shift work and less well for ordinary insomnia. Most sleep research uses 0.5 to 5 mg, and several studies have found lower doses work better than higher ones — melatonin receptors desensitise when flooded.

How to take it

  • If you are new to melatonin, do not start here. 0.5 to 3 mg is the usual effective range
  • Take thirty to sixty minutes before your intended sleep time
  • More is not stronger. High doses commonly cause next-day grogginess, vivid dreams and headache
  • Not for anyone under 18 without medical guidance, not in pregnancy, and check first if you take blood thinners, blood pressure medication or antidepressants

On the label

  • 35 mg melatonin per capsule
  • 120 capsules
  • Dose stated plainly on the front

What this is not

  • Not a starting dose
  • Not more effective than a lower dose — the research points the other way
  • Not a sedative

The straight answer

We sell this because people ask for it and because the alternative is buying it somewhere that will not tell you the dose is unusual. If you want melatonin for sleep, a lower-dose product is very likely the better buy.
